Club History and Objectives
Helensburgh Dog Training Club was founded in 1979 as Helensburgh Canine Club and changed its name in 2004 to better reflect the objectives of the Club.
The objectives of the Club are to provide training for dogs and handlers in order to create a partnership where you and your dog can walk safely anywhere without causing risk or danger to yourselves or anybody else.
Basic training exercises such as sit, stay and the recall have obvious benefits and may indeed one day save your dog’s life.
Dogs are intelligent creatures but they are also pack animals and behavioural problems can occur when the dog does not know its place in the pack or what its role is.
Effective training will not eradicate all behaviour problems but can certainly help by showing your dog that you are in charge.
